RETROLux 50mm interior louvers

BOB-Ludwigshafen

BOB Ludwigshafen – Ludwigshafen, Germany
Project overview

The BOB Ludwigshafen development continues the Balanced Office Building concept in south‑western Germany. The building offers flexible office spaces with a focus on operational efficiency and occupant well‑being. It targets DGNB Gold certification, reflecting its sustainable performance.

Design challenge

As with other BOB projects, the challenge was to deliver high daylight quality and low heat gains using a system that is simple, durable and easy for tenants to operate. External shading was deemed unnecessary and costly, so the interior solution had to match or exceed the performance of conventional exterior blinds.

RetroSolar strategy

Interior RETROLux 50 mm blinds are installed behind the façade and operated by hand crank

. The tension‑cable‑guided blinds run floor‑to‑ceiling, forming a secondary interior layer that separates the occupant zone from the glazing. The reflective upper surfaces of the slats bounce sunlight onto the ceiling, while the lower surfaces maintain transparency. This arrangement reduces the glare and heat without blocking views.
