Solving the #1 performance challenge of modern façades.
Eliminate glare and overheating without sacrificing natural light.

Building intelligence through mirror optics

Retro Solar has engineered mirror-louver geometries to separate light from heat. Incoming sunlight is optically split: useful daylight is redirected upward and distributed deep into the space, while excess solar radiation is reflected back outward before it becomes internal heat. Unlike absorptive blinds and shades, the system works at the façade level - reducing thermal gain before it enters the building envelope.

  • Substantially improved g-values through optical retro-reflection

  • Deep, diffuse daylight without glare or screen washout

  • Climate- and orientation-specific louver geometries

  • Software-calibrated optics for long-term performance accuracy

RETROSolar systems cut lighting hours, slash heat at the facade, and smooth peak loads—while making space more desirable. Every project is modeled with our proprietary software that accounts for climate, orientation, schedule, and region, and the optics can be fine-tuned after installation for maximum ROI.

  • Lower lighting energy

  • Lower cooling loads (better g-value/SHGC via retro-reflection)

  • Lower peak demand

  • Higher asset value (happier occupants, stronger leasing)

Increased design freedom,
Decreased energy costs

By controlling solar energy optically rather than mechanically, Retro Solar reduces reliance on lighting, cooling, and peak-load infrastructure - without compromising façade transparency. Each project is digitally modeled using site-specific inputs (latitude, orientation, occupancy, climate), and performance can be fine-tuned post-installation to maintain optimal results over the building’s lifecycle.

  • Reduced artificial lighting hours through higher daylight autonomy

  • Lower cooling loads via reduced SHGC at the façade

  • Flattened peak demand profiles

  • Higher asset value through comfort, usability, and lease appeal

Medically-validated to improve wellbeing

Retro Solar delivers stable, glare-free daylight deep into the occupied zone - supporting visual comfort, circadian regulation, and sustained cognitive performance.

In a controlled study conducted by Paracelsus Medical University, classrooms equipped with RETROLux A systems demonstrated measurable physiological benefits compared to conventional shading solutions.

  • Up to 30% lower cortisol levels in learning environments

  • More efficient melatonin breakdown during daytime hours

  • Even, glare-free illumination on task planes

  • More usable, high-quality workstations across the floorplate

proven success in flagship projects across 11 countries

Based in the US and Germany.
In Use Worldwide.

Retro Solar has developed mirror-optic louvers that channel daylight deep into buildings while retro-reflecting unwanted heat outdoors. The result: bright, glare-free interiors with lower cooling and lighting costs.
