OSD, the office commissioned to design the faÁade, invited tenders for the RETROLux 50 mm system in a double-skin faÁade for the Kreisler building by architects Faller+Kr ̧ck on Baseler Platz, Frankfurt am Main. As the faÁade is ventilated, the reflection-intensifying PVD layer of the light-deflecting louvres with 96% total reflection was additionally coated with a protective lacquer to make it resistant for external use.
The faÁade was prefabricated by the Haskamp company in Edewecht. The faÁade elements, including sun protection, were delivered to the construction site ready for installation.
Due to the very good overall reflection of the RETROLux light directing system, maximum temperatures of < 65°C are expected in the cavity of the double skin facade.
The special feature in the present faÁade design is the light reflection of the RETROLux louvres back into the sky without affecting the micro climate in the street space with temperatures and radiation. The retroreflective concept is supported by the faÁade cantilevers of the building design, as the reflections on the glass itself are also reflected back into the sky via the cantilevers.
This extraordinary faÁade concept takes into account the idea of protecting the microclimate in inner-city spaces from excessive light reflection on glass faÁades in an exemplary manner.
