Converting a Locomotive Shed from 1908 into a Modern Innovation Centre 850 qm Roof Glazing RETROLuxTherm and RETROFlexTherm, Freiburg

From different perspectives, the roof allows a very special transparency and view through to the sky. As the user equips all workstations with screens, the aim was to create glare-free workstations despite the complex and sometimes contradictory requirements for light trans- parency.

The glass roofs in the shed face south-east and north-west, so that solar radiation can be expected throughout the day. The illustrations show that the room is evenly lit even when the sky is diffuse. Nevertheless, the room lives with the daylight, with the different positions of the sun through- out the day and with the seasons.
